The Value in Stepping Back…

daisy

I started out 2018 with a BANG y’all!!  I was full of fire and ready to hit the ground running.  Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that I was coming into a new year already running on fumes.

We are in the middle of, quite arguably, the busiest season of our lives.  And it was just foolish to believe that I was going to be able to maintain the break-neck pace that I had set for myself.  *sigh*

In February, I started having health issues that just absolutely refused to be ignored.  I was cranky, constantly had a headache, suffered from persistent insomnia, had a complete stall on my weight-loss, and woke up every day more exhausted than the day before.  I knew something was wrong……I just didn’t know what.  Off to the internet I went to track down some answers (because that’s where everyone should look when self-diagnosing themselves…)

I learned that I was suffering from Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome or AFS for short.  While this might not sound like a big deal, it turns out that it’s a rather debilitating condition.  Ask anyone who’s ever dealt with it and they will be quick to tell you…..it stinks.  Luckily, I learned that through MAJOR changes in diet, exercise, and stress management I could help myself recover from AFS.  So, that’s what I did.

I overhauled my entire diet, as well as the diets of everyone in my family (more to come on that very soon..), I exchanged stringent workouts for nice walks around the neighborhood, and I eliminated as much stress from my life as I possibly could.

Enter YouTube.

Although my channel is a place that I consider to be a fun and creative outlet for me, it does come with it’s fair share of stress.  Deadlines and contracts, analytics and expectations…..it can be a bit much for someone trying to reduce stress.  So, I decided to take a step back.

My initial thought was that it would take me 2-3 months to recover and start to feel “normal” again.  And this is what I shared during my very impromptu Facebook Live video.  But, surprisingly it only took about 4 weeks of slowing down and listening to my body to really see results.

At this point, I’m feeling better than ever.  I’m finally rested.  My family is enjoying foods that make us feel healthy and energized.  And I have a new outlook on life….including my channel.

What’s to come for my channel is still up in the air.  I have a lot of thoughts to share with you all.  And I hope that through sharing I can continue to encourage one person at a time.  One thing I do know……

I’m not going anywhere just yet!  😉

All my love,

Melony aka Mommy….
